Why Join?

Here are a few reasons to join this service-oriented organization, straight from the mouths (or fingers) of some of our officers:

Joining the Honor Society has been ideal for helping me develop leadership skills. A shy person by nature, the Honor Society has helped me learn how to speak in front of crowds and how to solve problems in a group. The Honor Society also fosters a heart for community service. I've been able to reach out in so many ways. - Shelby Johnson, President, 2005-2006

The Honor Society is a great way to interact with other homeschool teens, and it introduces you to many new ways to serve the community. - Ryan Clay, Media-Communications Officer, 2005-2006

It provides a recognizable standard which can be presented to colleges. - Bethany Moore, Service Coordinator, 2005-2006

We are given the opportunity to learn about many different career possibilities through the guest speaker program.  - Jordan Baker, Vice President, 2005-2006

I have the chance to meet lots of other homeschooled students who are smart, friendly, motivated and committed to making a positive impact on their community. - Clark Benedetti, Jr. High Service Coordinator, 2005-2006

I have been given many opportunities for community service, leadership, and have been challenged intellectually in my Honor Society membership experience. I believe that I will be much better prepared for college when the time comes. - Justin Tisdale, Webmaster, 2005-2006

"Honor Society is such a great opportunity to learn, grow, help, and make awesome friendships. Outside involvement with other homeschoolers is not only a diversion from being the typical "stay at home" homeschooler, but benefits, and I would go as far to say makes, your homeschooling experience. Giving yourself the responsibility of belonging, and contributing, to a group makes you a more mature and stronger student. Above all, you are given the chance to help others through the community service outreach. The Honors Society social parties are also a definate highlight!"
--Shelby Price, Social Coordinator, 2009-2010

Honor Society presents the opportunity to meet others with similar goals and vastly different interests. Yes, meetings are a time to plan service projects, practice leadership, and enjoy speakers, but they are also a time to generate friendships with like-minded peers whom you otherwise would never have met.
--Julia Haines, Treasurer, 09/10

I had a blast being in the Honor Society! It was probably one of the highlights of my high school career because I met so many new friends through it. As a homeschooler it can be tough at times to find other homeschoolers but Honor Society definitely provided me with a great deal of friendships. Also, as an officer this group taught me not only how to be a leader but how to have fun while being one. I really hope this encourages you to join Honor Society because I know what kind of impact it can have on your life. ETA SIGMA ALPHA RULES!!!
--Kenric Duncan, Chaplain-08/09, Vice President-09/10

Honor Society is loads of fun. Some may tell you that it's not that great, but you truly get out whatever you put in. Having put in a Tuesday every month along with planning four parties in the year, I got a ton of fun out of it. It was a great way to meet several great friends. If you have the opportunity to be an officer, take it! The lessons in leadership and social networking (in the real world--not online) are priceless. Thanks for being awesome, ETA Honor Society!!
--Harrison Matheny, Social Coordinator 2009-10

Honor Society provides an opportunity for homeschoolers to get out of their homes and comfort zones to meet other students. Through monthly meetings, service projects and the parties you have plenty of opportunities to meet new students, and develop your leadership skills. Honor Society is also a fun way to enhance your resume which is handy when applying for colleges.
--Hannah Aerts, Secretary-08/09, Service Coordinator -09/10

Honor Society has given me the opportunity to reach out to other people and lead as an example to my peers. I have been a member for a total of six years, and seeing the change that has taken place in my life during that time is astounding. I truly believe with all my heart that Eta Sigma Alpha is used by the Lord to strengthen the moral foundations of young Christians, and to prepare them for their life ahead. The confidence and experience I have gained through the Honor Society will be indispensable as I work to pursue my career. --Josh Tucker, Webmaster, 2009-2010
